How to install, update, & uninstall

Text Toolkit is an add-in for Excel that works in Excel for Mac, for Windows, Excel on the web. On this page, find out how to install the tool on your device.

As soon as the installation is complete, you can get acquainted with the tool.

How to install from Microsoft Office Store

The simplest way is to install the app to your Microsoft account via Microsoft Store:

So, go to the Store, click the Get it now button, and the add-in will be installed to your Microsoft account. Restart the desktop Excel client, and Text Toolkit should appear there as well.

Please note that the appearance of the tool in your desktop Excel may take from several minutes to several hours depending on the Windows and Office versions you use. Unfortunately, we can't influence this process.

If you are installing the add-in on Excel for Mac and while setup see an error message, please go to this section.

Alternatively, you can install Text Toolkit from your Microsoft account.

  1. First of all, let's open the Office Add-Ins dialog box:

    • In Excel on the web, go to the Insert tab and click Office Add-ins:
      Click Office Add-ins.
    • In desktop Excel, go to the Insert tab, find the Add-ins group in the ribbon and click the Get Add-ins button:
      Click Get Add-ins.
  2. In the Office Add-Ins dialog box, go to Store, enter "Text Toolkit" into the Search filed and click the Search icon:
    Select Store.
  3. Find Ablebits Text Toolkit on the list and click Add:
    Ablebits Text Toolkit.
  4. Now you can find out how to use the tool.

Troubleshooting

  • If you cannot install the add-in, it might mean that the installation is prohibited by you or your system administrator.
  • If you cannot start the add-in, it might mean that your system administrator prevented you from running it.
  • If the add-in works incorrectly, for example, if it is missing from the ribbon every time you start your Excel, it might mean that the Office cache is cleared. One of the options that clears the Office cache is Next time Office starts, clear all previously-started web add-ins cache in Microsoft Excel Trust Center. You can find that option by going to FileOptionsTrust CenterTrust Center SettingsTrusted Add-in Catalogs.

    For the add-in to work correctly, make sure that the checkboxes on the Trusted Add-in Catalogs tab are not selected:
    Don't select these checkboxes.

    Or, contact your system administrator.

Installation on Excel for Mac: Error message

When you install Text Toolkit from Microsoft Office Store on your Excel for Mac, you may see the following or similar error message:

No worries, there is a quick and easy solution:

  1. Close the error message, run Excel for Mac, go the Insert tab and click My Add-ins:
    Click My Add-ins.
  2. In the Office Add-ins window, go to My Add-ins and click Refresh in the top right corner:
    Click Refresh.
  3. Ablebits Text Toolkit should appear. Click on it and then click the Add button in the bottom right corner:
    Click Add.

How to uninstall Text Toolkit for Excel

The simplest way to uninstall the tool is via Excel Online. So, in your Excel Online account, take the steps described below to uninstall Text Toolkit. Then restart your desktop Excel client - the add-in will be uninstalled there as well.

Please note that the tool may stay in your desktop Excel for some hours or even days. This depends on the Windows and Office versions you use, unfortunately, we can't influence this process.

  1. In Excel Online, go to the Insert tab and click Office Add-ins:
    Click Office Add-ins.
  2. In the Office Add-Ins dialog box, go to My add-ins, hover over Ablebits Text Toolkit and click the three dots:
    Click the three dots.
  3. In the drop-down menu, select Remove:
    Click the three dots.

How to force updating the add-in

  • In Excel for Mac:
    Start the add-in, right-click on its pane, click Reload.
  • In Excel Online on Mac (in Safari or Chrome):
    Start the add-in in your browser and press Ctrl+F5.
  • In Excel Desktop on Windows:
    Start the add-in, click on its pane to move the keyboard input focus, then press Ctrl+F5.
  • In Excel Online on Windows (in Chrome, IE, Edge, Firefox):
    Start the add-in in your browser and press Ctrl+F5.
