Frequently asked questions

What is Random Generator and what do I need it for?

The tool is designed to help you get random records of most common types within a certain range.

Whether your task is to assign duty dates or raffle numbers, create strong passwords or get YES/NO and TRUE/FALSE Booleans, this add-on will help you stay unbiased.

Isn’t there a free way to generate data in Google spreadsheets?

There is, but not without pitfalls.

There are two special functions: RAND to generate a number between 0 and 1 and RANDBETWEEN to return random integers within two values of your choice. Alas, the functions cannot produce any other type of data and the formulas should be copied all over the range of interest manually. What’s more, they are volatile, meaning the formulas recalculate themselves with each new calculation on the spreadsheet.

Our add-on lets you generate not only numbers, but also letters, dates, Booleans, passwords, entire strings of characters, and even words from your custom lists.

How to generate random data in Google Sheets?

Select the range, run the tool, choose the data type, and click Generate. Yes, it’s that easy! :)

See a more detailed description here.

Isn't there a chance to get a repeated value? I’d rather avoid that.

The add-on acts in accordance with your settings. For any type of value, there’s an option to generate unique values only. Turn this option on/off depending on what you’d like to get.

I need to generate only workdays for our shifts plan, can I do that?

Sure! Just specify the date period and then exclude weekends from the generated dates. You can include them back anytime if necessary.

How do I create strong passwords with your tool?

Flexible settings let you generate strings of any pattern. Choose from a set of standard characters (capital and small letters, numbers, hexadecimals, spaces, or other symbols) or enter custom ones, define the length for the created values, or add your own mask for new values.
