Frequently asked questions

One of my lookup tables has empty cells. Will these empty cells overwrite records in the main worksheet?

Yes, the add-in finds matching data in the lookup tables and replaces records in the main table with the found entries. If you don't want your records to be replaced with empty cells, you can select the corresponding option in Step 7 of the add-in.

I have changed the location for one of the workbooks saved in my scenario. Will the scenario still run successfully or shall I save a new scenario?

Your scenario won’t work if you move the workbooks that contain the worksheets to be processed by the tool. In this case you can either create a new scenario or update the location of your workbook for the existing one. You can find your saved scenarios and do the necessary changes here: C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Ablebits\Merge Tables.

Can I choose to update only part of my worksheet?

The tool updates the whole table, it is not possible to select a range to update and keep the rest unchanged.

How can I see what records have been updated?

The tool highlights updated cells and new rows in the main worksheet. In Step 7, you can select the hue the add-in will use to mark updated values. Also you can choose to add a status column to mark all updated cells and rows.

Can I undo changes made by the add-in?

No, it is not possible to undo changes made by the add-in. If you want to keep the original data, make sure to select the Back up this worksheet option.

Is it possible to update only empty cells in my worksheet?

Yes, the add-in can update empty cells and ignore cells with values. Just select the corresponding option in Step 7.
