How to add text to cells in Excel

This helpful tool lets you enter and add any text, character or symbol at the beginning or at the end of cells, before, after certain text, or by position. You can choose to process only text cells and skip blanks, if necessary.

  1. Run the Add Text tool by clicking on its icon. Run the Add Text tool by clicking on its icon
  2. Select a range where you need to append text.
  3. In the corresponding field, type the prefix, suffix, string, or characters you need to add to the selected cells in your Excel table. The values you enter are saved in the drop-down list for future uses. Type the text you need to add to the selected cells.
  4. Select the position of the text in the selected cells by pressing one of the following radio buttons.
    • At the beginning. Append text before values in the cells you highlight.
    • At the end. Add text in Excel after the values in the selected cells.
    • Before text. Enter the text and the specified value will be added before it. Enter the text and the specified value will be added before it
    • After text. Enter the text and the specified value will be appended after it. Enter the text and the specified value will be appended after it
    • After character number. Specify the exact position for your text in the selected cell. You can type or choose the character number after or before which you need to add the text in Excel. Specify the exact position for your text in the selected cell
  5. You can tick the check-box Process only text cells to leave the cells with numerical data intact.
  6. Select to Skip empty cells if you have blanks in your data table.
  7. Press the Add text button and enjoy the results.
