How to add text to cells in Excel

This helpful tool lets you add any text, character or symbol at the beginning or at the end of cells, before, after certain text, or by position. You can choose to process only text cells and skip blanks, if necessary.

  1. Run the Add Text tool by clicking on the Add icon you will find in the Text group under Ablebits Data tab. Run the Add Text tool by clicking on its icon
  2. Select the range where you need to append text.
  3. In the corresponding field, type the prefix, suffix, string, or characters you need to add to the selected cells in your Excel table. The values you enter are saved in the drop-down list for future use. Type the text you need to add to the selected cells.
  4. Choose the position of the text in the selected cells by selecting one of the following radio buttons:
    • At the beginning. Append text before all values in the cells you highlight.
    • At the end. Add text in Excel after the values in the selected cells.
    • Before text. Insert the specified value before the text you enter in the field next to this option.
    • After text. Append the specified value after the text you enter in the field next to this option.
    • After character number. Specify the exact position for your text in the selected cells. You can type or choose the character number and the way to count it: start with the beginning of the cell or from the end of it.
  5. You can tick the check-box Process only text cells to leave the cells with numerical data intact.
  6. Select to Skip empty cells if you have blanks in your data table.
  7. We recommend choosing the option Back up the worksheet as you can't cancel changes made by add-ins in Excel.
  8. Press the Add text button and enjoy the results.
