Working with workbooks and worksheets (Workbooks page)
The Explorer for Microsoft Excel displays all your opened workbooks and worksheets in a tree-view. Use this page to easily manage them:
- To create a new worksheet or a workbook, click on the "New" button
on the main toolbar and select the type of new entry from the drop-down menu
- To open a workbook please click on the "Open" button
on the main toolbar, to open recently used workbooks click on the down arrow on the right of the "Open" button.
- To rename your worksheet or workbook, click on the worksheet (workbook) and choose "Rename" from the pop-up menu, or press the F2 hotkey.
- To sort worksheets in a workbook alphabetically (A-Z or Z-A), choose a workbook and press
buttons on a main toolbar (or choose "Sort Ascending" / "Sort descending" from the pop-up menu.
- To hide or show hidden worksheets, select a worksheet and choose "Hide" / "Show hidden sheets" from the pop-up menu.
- To copy a worksheet, press Shift key and drag the sheet to where you need (to another location in the same workbook or to another workbook).
- To move a worksheet, just drag it to where you need (to another location in the same workbook or to another workbook).
- To delete a worksheet from a workbook, select the worksheet and choose "Delete" from the pop-up menu or press the Del hotkey.
- To update the data in the Explorer pane, click on the "Refresh" button
on the main toolbar.
Manage defined names (Names page)
The Explorer parses your opened Microsoft Excel workbooks and displays all defined names in a tree-view.
Broken names (names that refer to non-existent ranges) are written in red.
The number in brackets right to the Workbook's name shows a total number of found names
- To see what cell(s) a particular Name refers to in your worksheet, just click on the entry and the add-in selects the name's cells.
- To change a Name, click on the Name and choose "Rename Name" from the pop-up menu or press the F2 hotkey.
- To delete a Name, click on the Name and choose "Delete Name" from the pop-up menu or press the Del hotkey.
Working with worksheet comments (Comments page)
The Explorer parses your opened Microsoft Excel workbooks and displays all found comments in a tree-view.
The number in brackets right to the Workbook's name shows a total number of found names
- To see where a particular comment is located in your Microsoft Excel worksheet, just click on the comment and the add-in selects the cell with the comment. With the Explorer for Microsoft Excel, you can use comments as handy bookmarks for your workbooks.
- To show / hide a comment, check or uncheck the checkbox on the left of the comment.
- To delete a comment, click on the comment and choose "Delete comment" from the pop-up menu.
- If you want to remove all comments from a worksheet, select the worksheet name and choose "Delete comment" from the pop-up menu.
Working with Hyperlinks
The Explorer for Microsoft Excel parses your workbooks and displays all hyperlinks in a tree-view.
- To see where a particular hyperlink is located in your worksheet, just click on the entry and the add-in selects the cell with the hyperlink.
- To convert an ULR to text, click on the hyperlink and choose "Convert hyperlink to text" from the context menu.
- To remove a hyperlink, click on the entry and choose "Delete hyperlink" from the pop-up menu.
- To remove all hyperlinks from a worksheet or to convert all hyperlinks to text, select the worksheet name and choose the corresponding option from the pop-up menu.
Working with Microsoft Excel links
Use this page to work with links (formulas that get data from a cell in another workbook).
The Explorer for Microsoft Excel processes your workbook and displays all links in a tree-view. So you can:
- View the source data. Just select "Go to source" from the link context menu.
- Change the source workbook. Select "Change source" from the context menu
- Recalculate linked values. Choose "Update values".
- Replace a linked formula with its value. Choose "Break a link" from the context menu
Working with Conditional formatting
Note: Refreshing data in this tab may be rather slow in large workbooks (up to a few minutes if the book contains dozens of worksheets with thousands of rows).
Here you can easily manage your cells with conditional formatting.
The add-in parses your workbooks and displays conditional formatting in a tree-view. Cells of the same format are grouped together.
- To view cells with a certain conditional formatting, click on the entry and the Explorer for Microsoft Excel selects all cells with this format.
- To change the condition of formatting, click on the entry and choose "Edit rule" from the pop-up menu.
- To remove conditional formatting, click on the entry and choose "Delete rule" from the pop-up menu.
Displaying workbooks and worksheets errors
Note: Refreshing data in this tab may be rather slow in large workbooks.
The Explorer for Microsoft Excel displays all found errors in a tree-view.
- To see where a particular error is located in your worksheet, just click on the entry and the add-in selects the cell with the error.
- To ignore an error, click on the entry and choose "Ignore error" from the pop-up menu.
- If you want to ignore all errors in a sheet, just select the workseet name and choose "Ignore error" from the pop-up menu.
Custom list page
Use this page to work with Microsoft Excel's custom lists. If you often need to create workbooks with the same worksheet names, this page is for you.
Here you can add dozens of sheets with needed names to your Microsoft Excel workbook with a click.
- To create a custom list of worksheet names, select the cells with their names and click on the "Create a list from the selected range" button on the Explorer for Microsoft Excel toolbar. Lists with full and short names of months and days of week are built in the Explorer for Microsoft Excel by default.
- To insert a group of worksheets, select the custom list you want and choose "Insert worksheets" from the pop-up.
- To delete a custom list, select the list you don't want any more and choose "Delete" from the pop-up.
